February 23, 2006 \\ Preston is in Bishop Auckland

The first of our 'pairs' has been and gone. We had a van and a car going from Boro to Bishop for the first gig, and managed to find what could have been a tricky-to-find venue easily thanks to the miracle of sat nav. The venue was a little pub with regulars in the back and a little stage at the front, and it worked very well. The regulars seemed to put up with the racket and even joined in the applause. Vince and Claire took care of the sound marvellously and even had the rare asset of an extension lead. Nick struggled slightly due to the drummer from Two Sick Monkeys being about a foot taller. But all in all it was a good un. I also unvailed my new gegs/bins/glasses and was told I looked like Preston. Thanks very much to Vince for setting us up with the gig. He is talking about getting us back in about 6 months time at a different venue perhaps.

next day we were back in the Boro for Uberfest 5. We were on at 7pm in the end which got Nick into trouble with his missus cos he was meant ot be home by 8! Sorry George, my fault for not communicating enough. Anyway the later start meant the pub was pretty full and our audience response increased as we went, despite our skill levels not following suit. I was forced to get my Preston Glasses out for a song and then spent the whole song struggling to get them back on after they almost fell off on my first 'rock star move'.

Thanks to all those who came out to see us over the weekend including the contingent from Manchester. And despite the fact that my birthday was on the Saturday I didn't have a drop to drink the whole weekend due to driving commitments. But given the choice of drink or gig I'll take the gig everytime.

Right better get back to work before they sack me...
