February 12, 2007 \\ Bordering On The Ridiculous

Wowee Zowee. We had some fine times last Thirz dee and Frydee, I tell thee.

This first gig was in The Captain Cook, down by the Transporter bridge in the Boro. Now this is in an area on the river-side of the railway track and has been known for years as 'over the border' and has a reputation for being somewhat rough. So many people in Boro have consequently never been over there especially after dark. So the rep is all they have to go on.

Anyhoo, this meant that a lot of people were a bit scared to go to the gig, and some members of the bands were a touch...uhm.. apprehensive.

It turned out to be one of the best gigs in a loooong time. The selection of bands was a big factor in that. And Richie did an excellent job of rallying a fine selection. All brilliant, all mad, all good. But also the locals in there were very friendly and Olwyn the landlady was the nicest landlady you're every likely to encounter. And 'Marcus' did a great job getting the PA sorted and keeping it in good working order.

And a good crew of people had managed to come down for it, and they all had a very fine tatse in music and soo enjoyed all the bands.

Olwyn laid on food for all, bands, audience, everybody.

We did a 2 song soundcheck and later on in the night somebody said 'All the bands were good except the first band who did 2 songs and then fooked off'! Ha ha.

We had to almost drag Kevin Wall out at the end of the night, he was ensonced(sp?) in the backroom chilling with da boyz.

And Wes, Tim and Marcus were there in lock-in mode until after 2:30.

People were raving about it for days after.

The night after we completed our 'border tour' in Doc Brown's playing with Norwegian band Beezewax, who happen to be one of the fave bands of Henrey DARTZ! who was putting the shindig on.

Now Henry was worried that he wouldn't get many down. But seeing as how EVERYBODY I had spoken to said they were coming I started to worry because of the size of the upstairs function room in Broons.

For the record I was right and he was wrong. He had to turn people away in the end.

But on the night I saw a few people I hadn't seen in years: Spoo, Hooker and Nicky Junior for starters. Si Briggs was there, of course, selling (or in fact not selling) his wares in the corner but as he said himslef "At least I always get a seat"!

We played quite well although my damn amp decided to start cutting out and then fully cut out half way through. Luckily the magical Carlsbro bass amp we got for 20 quid about 14 years ago came to the rescue and proved more than capable of amplifying a guitar and bass at the same time. Phew.

The Beezewax boys of course made us look like damn amateurs, apart from when they suffered a broken guitar string when I made them look like damn amateurs by lending them my SPARE GUITAR. Ha!

Thanks to Henry for putting us on the bill. He is now off on a MAMMOTH tour (including Spain!) to support DARTZ! debut LP which has just come out.

Soon we shall be doing some recording, our first with Gillham our newish drummer. Firts we shall do a whole bunch of songs live to use as demos and for myspace 'n' tha. And then we shall be sampling the new Green Dragon super-studio with Nath at the controls for hopefull and ep type thingie.

Our anthology is still in progress. Delays are beyond our control. But we shall maybe tease you a bit soon with some golden oldies from our back-catalogue on our myspace page.

Right take care, and keep checking up on us...
